Product ID: 256578Conn6MAlto
This is a vintage original silver plated C.G. Conn “naked lady” engraved alto sax, serial number 256578. This alto is technically a transitional but is basically a 6M in all but name, as all of the keywork is 6M-style. We are offering this alto at a super low price “as is”, and really it just needs polishing and pads.
The original silver plate on this alto is tarnished, but in really excellent condition, showing only light finish wear on the usual touch points. So silver polish will make the sax shine up like new. The horn is also very nice physically. I see some evidence of minor past dent work in the bottom bow, but only very minor, and no other work anywhere else that I can see. There are no resolders. The original neck has never been pulled down. The sax does feature rolled tone holes, which have never been filed on, and 6M style table keys and swivel thumbrest. The neck has the microtuner mechanism, double socket receiver, and underslung octave key.
Pads have been replaced somewhat recently on this horn, fitted with brown plastic resonators, but honestly it was not done well. You may be able to get by on teasing them around to get everything to seal properly, but the best course may just to be to repad it right. With good pads, a pro set up, and polish, this is going to be a phenomenal pro sax and beautiful to see too. The silver should add color and warmth to your tone, without affect the free blowing nature of Conns of this vintage. Ships in its original hard case.
