This is a fantastic original lacquer Selmer Mark VI tenor sax, serial number 103158. This tenor looks great with better than 85% original lacquer intact, This saxophone was just freshly overhualed in the Saxquest shop and ships in perfect playing condition.
This tenor came to us in mostly original pads, dating way back to 1962. To really make this Mark VI sing, we decided to replace all the pads and material and make it perfect. We disassembled the horn, cleaned it, removed the tiny little dings here and there, and professionally regulated it, optimizing the key heights and spring tensions up and down. It feels like a factory new horn again, and is backed by our full year mechanical warranty. This saxophone is now featuring a new set of Valetino leather pads and brown plastic resonators.
For those players looking for looks and sound, this is a great option. The original lacquer has darkened with time to a rich brown patina. The “front” of the sax shows very little lacquer wear, and there are just minor wear spots on the back side of the tube where it may rest against the player's body during play. I see no resolders or previous repairs anywhere. The neck is original with matching serial number, and it has just a very slight past pull-down but no lasting damage.
a tremendous horn. Made just after the fabled “5 digit” range, this tenor has all the sound characteristics you want from an early Mark VI. It is currently in its original case which unfortunately is falling apart. Unless the new owner really wants the original case, we will replace it when it ships with something newer.
