This is a good original lacquer Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor sax, serial number 133835. Don't let the pictures fool you on this one, this sax is fairly dirty now, but it is in line for a complete restoration in our repair shop. We'll clean it all up and get it ready for its new life.
This tenor shows some lacquer wear for its age, but it is completely original, and actually is really great physical condition. It has had a couple little dings over the course of its career, but no major past damage or trauma. The alternate F# keyguard on the back of the tube has been resoldered at some point, but that is the only past repair I can find. The original neck does show the matching serial number, and it has never been pulled down. The sax has seen some playing, but has been well cared for an well maintained all of its life. A previous owner did scratch his name and phone number down near the serial number, this can be buffed out if you like, but will ultimately remove some lacquer in the process so we have left it for the time being.
We will completely go through this tenor in our repair shop before it ships. We'll take it apart, clean it up top to bottom, and replace all of the pads, corks, and felts. We'll then optimize the key heights for intonation and response, and even the spring tensions. We'll have this tenor playing like a new horn again, and ready for any gig you want to take it to. It plays with a big sound, warm but not overly dark, and a solid strong focus that cuts well. A great “player's horn” for the everyday gigging professional.
