Product ID: 259408ConnTenor
This is a true C.G. Conn “transitional” model tenor sax, serial number 259408. This horn features Chu style keywork pretty much throughout, including split bell keys, but it has 10M style “naked lady” engraving on the bell, a rare find.
This tenor is in decent original lacquer, with light wear as to be expected for a horn of its age. It does feature rolled tone holes which have never been filed on, and a trill G# key. The neck is in solid shape as well. This tenor came to us in older pads, with even some original pads in the lower end. We are in the process of completely restoring this horn top to bottom. We are going to remove some minor dings in the body tube such as you see now near the serial number, replace all of the pads, corks, and felts, and adjust it out. We'll set the spring tensions on the lighter side, and key heights a little more open, as you'd want on a Conn from this vintage.
Once done up, I expect a sound as big as you can handle. This is in the good, desirable vintage for a tenor. Especially when in original lacquer like this one, these tenors play with a full character and extremely quick, open response. Very resonant horns, and as free blowing as you will find. A dynamic horn for a great price!
