This is a stand out player! P. Mauriat 66RCL in dark Cognac Lacquer, serial number 1016709. Don't let the looks of this tenor fool you it is currently one of the best free blowing players in the shop and can be had at a great price.
The body of this tenor does show that someone put some serious play time on it. While it is not the prettiest horn it is in great physical shape and has no history of serious repair. Its body tube, bow, bow cap are all in good shape. The bell flare is also in good physical condition but does show a lot of small surface scratches. There was a previous repair to the neck strap ring. (see picture ) The original neck is with the horn and is also in good shape.
As a player this tenor is totally killing! It takes the air in super quick and has an exceptionally resonant response and a ton of character. The sound of the sax does lean towards the darker end of the color spectrum with a robust and powerful quality. These 66R models are very akin to the huge sounds of the vintage Conn saxophones and this one in particular is no exception.
If you are looking to get a lot of horn for the money and don't mind some built in cosmetic flare this 66R is going to be hard to pass up.
