This is a beautiful Selmer Paris Mark VI alto saxophone, serial number 199779. If you are looking to get something with a gorgeous original lacquer finish this alto is going to be hard to pass up. It has absolutely no history of dent repair and has received zero re-solders. Its body tube, bow, bow cap and bell flare are all in fantastic original condition. It does show some modest play wear but nothing serious. The horn was very cherished by the previous owner and it really shows. This alto also features the original neck in perfect physical condition.
The later vintage Mark VI altos tend to be just a little brighter and more focused then the early five digit models. This one in particular has a beautiful centered sound with an outstanding sonic balance from low Bb all the way into the extended register. The strong core sound and balance of the instrument allows for exceptional control and flexibility. In comparison to the earlier Mark VI models this one is a little bit more focused but is still a very free breathing instrument as you would expect from any vintage Selmer. The key work is extremely comfortable under the fingers.
The sax came to us with some older pads so we are currently in the process of re-padding it in our shop. Saxquest's professional re-pad will include brand new Valentino pads, brown plastic resonators, new corks, felts, key fitting and a precise key regulation. The sax will soon be in perfect playing condition. This saxophone is keyed to a high F#. The F# key is a special feature on this horn and was a special order item at the time these saxophones were being sold.
