Product ID: 283014Super20Alto
This is a 1946 vintage King Super 20 alto sax, serial number 283014. This is one of the very first series of Super 20's made by King. It features pearl inlay on many of the touch points, sunburst engraving on all of the low bow and bell key cups, and a sterling silver neck with underslung octave key and double socket receiver.
This alto appears to have been factory relacquered early in its life, but the work is about the best I have ever seen. I'm confident it would fool 95% of the players (and probably as many repair shops) out there, as it is absolutely perfect. Even the color is right for this vintage. The engraving is perfect on the bell, with no buff marks. It is only fainter in one spot down on the bottom bow, and that is about the only giveaway that the sax is not in original lacquer. You don't see them this nicely done ever.
Physically the horn is straight. There are a couple tiny pings in the bottom bow which we will remove during our overhaul, and it is missing one foot of the low Eb keyguard which we will fabricate as well. There is evidence of very minor past dent work in the bell flare. The rest of the horn is straight with no past work or repairs. The original neck has the matching serial number, and it has never been pulled down.
We are going to completely restore this alto before shipping. We'll take it apart, clean it, and replace all of the pads, corks, and felts throughout. We'll set it up with a good pro regulation and make sure all spring tensions and key heights are optimized. It will ship in perfect adjustment and ready for a new lease on life. If you've been on the hunt for a great looking Super 20 and one that will be in perfect playing shape too, you don't want to miss this one. Ships in its original case.
