Clifford Brown was one of the most outstanding trumpet players of the 50's and his legacy continues to influence and inspire jazz musicians of all instruments. His playing was rooted in the bebop language developed by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie in the 40's and those influences are evident. This book presents some of the soloing techniques Clifford Brown employed as well as numerous lines over various chords and chord progressions similar to the lines he used in playing. First, to better understand Clifford Brown's style, the authors discuss guide tones, bebop scales, three to flat nine, playing the upper-structure/secondary arpeggios, targeting, and other techniques. Futher concepts are then explained in later chapters. An accompanying play-along cd is included to futher help recognize how these different devices and techniques are integrated into Clifford Brown's playing.
