Product ID: 356LeblancAlto
This is an early vintage G Leblanc Paris System Rationale alto sax, serial number 356. This is one of the first series of Rationales, featuring a “closed” G#, an extra tone hole on the back side of the body tube that only opens for G#. The sax is in beautiful original lacquer and is primed for the serious collector.
This alto isn't a closet horn, it has been played some in its day, but obviously always well cared for. The original lacquer is 85-90% intact. There isn't much in the way of playing wear like scratches or friction wear on the touch points, but some keys are definitely lighter in color where it almost seems the lacquer has thinned in spots. The sax shows no past dents or repairs, no resolders. The original neck shows some minor lacquer wear on either side, but no past trauma and it has never been pulled down. As most Leblancs from this vintage, it features extra keys here and there (high F# below the normal palm keys) and a slightly different layout and feel.
This sax has seen sporadic maintenance, with pads replaced as needed. It currently has a mismatched set of pads and resos, but to keep the price of this collector's piece down, we are offering it as-is in its current condition. If you wanted to do any serious playing on this alto, you will want to have it repadded and set up, but for the die hards that just want to add an early Leblanc example to the collection, you won't find a better specimen at a lower price.
