This is a late 30's first series King Zephyr alto sax, serial number 237991. This horn has all the features of the first Zephyrs ever produced, and is in great shape.
As you can see in the photos, this horn features the triple neck strap ring and the double socket receiver on the neck. Its bell has the detailed Zephyr engraving and looks great. This sax was relacquered a long time ago, but done extremely well as the engraving looks perfect all around the bell. The sax shows no major previous damages or repairs. There is one minor bump on the very bottom of the bow cap, but it is very minor and will not affect play. The neck is original with the matching serial number. The neck has had the octave key saddle resoldered, and this could be cleaned up to look a lot nicer.
This sax is currently in older pads and will need a repad to be ready for every day playing. With new pads and a good pro adjustment, this can be a great player for a low price. These early Zephyrs are quite nice, they have a warm texture to their sound but you can get a sense for the power that come later in the King Super 20 line.
