Here is a beautiful example of an earlier series Yamaha YAS-62 pro alto saxophone, serial number 056204. This is a first series 62, made just after the “purple logo” horns but on the sax, existing design. It features the long wrap-around lower keyguard.
Physically this alto is in outstanding shape. The original lacquer shows only mild wear from honest use. There are a couple tiny pings in the bottom bow which we will remove before shipping, and no resolder joints anywhere. There is evidence of some minor past dent work in the bell flare, which has been done well. The original neck has never been pulled down or damaged in any way. Pads are all in fantastic shape, fitted with metal resonators, and have lots of life left in them.
We are going to completely go through this alto before it ships and make sure it is in perfect shape. We'll adjust the spring tensions and key heights, and reseat all of the pads to perfection. Even before we've started the work, you can get a sense for how good this alto plays. It has a clear, focused tone. Not overly bright, but it does have a level of brilliance that carries well in a loud room. The keywork is crisp and the instrument feels fluid. A very enjoyable alto to play. Ships in its original Yamaha purple case, which is also in fantastic shape.
