Professional Saxophone Mechanical Overhaul - Soprano/Alto/Tenor

Saxquest specializes in mechanical overhauls, mechanical restorations and custom key work. We use the finest grade materials available, with careful attention paid to detail. YOU decide what kind of resonator, pad and pad treatment you would like us to use. We are happy to make recomendations for you. Each player, instrument and mouthpiece make a unique combination. A combination we try to take into consideration when we repair your instrument.

Professional Overhaul Process

  1. Disassembly and careful cleaning of the instrument with mild detergent.
  2. Body is checked for proper alignment and straightened if necessary.
  3. Minor dent work.
  4. All keys are swedged to remove lateral play.
  5. Excessive wear removed from post to hinge rod.
  6. Pads cups checked on jeweler's anvil for flatness.
  7. Tone holes addressed.
  8. Refit tenon and receiver.
  9. All new pads (your choice of pad type and resonator type, we are happy to make recommendations)
  10. Key corks, felts, synthetics and neck cork installed (premium cork, top grade felt, highest quality synthetic used for key regulation and silencing).
  11. Springs replaced as needed (blue needle springs, additional charge).
  12. Meticulously regulated to customers specifications (see custom setup).
  13. Wiped down, oiled and play tested.

Please note: If an instrument needs extensive dent work and/or key wear, there may be an additional cost, and we will contact you upon evaluation of the instrument to give you an estimate of additional fees.

Pricing and Time Frame

Our professional overhaul, including all of the work detailed above, is priced at $1150 for a soprano, alto or tenor saxophone, plus parts. Factoring in the cost of pads and resonators, the final price is usually close to $1400, assuming no major dent work is needed. This does not include the cost of all shipping fees, so we have included those here as well. The price you see is the final price you pay, including all of the work and all shipping fees to/from you.

The current turn-around in our repair shop is 8 weeks for a full overhaul. You can purchase the overhaul now, and we will contact you when it is time to ship the sax to us. At that time we will email you boxing and shipping directions, as well as a UPS label for your use in shipping us the saxophone. We can even ship you a box to pack your saxophone, pre-packaged with all the shipping materials you will need, for an additional charge. Once in our possession, we will only need the sax for approximately 2 weeks. If we find the sax needs extra work outside of what we consider the norm, you will be contacted with a revised estimate.

Warranties

Both Basic Mechanical Overhauls and Complete Mechanical Restorations come with a one year warranty on all work performed. Warranties are only valid for saxophones that have not been abused or otherwise neglected. If your horn goes out of regulation in the first year by means of normal daily wear and tear, send it back to us and we'll fix it for free. You are only responsible for shipping charges.
