HELP, I Want One!

Coming w/ Full Saxquest Overhaul

This is a very nice, 1960 vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI alto sax, serial number 86245. This is a rare “medium bow” Mark VI, made just before the long bow was introduced around number 875xx. This series tunes great and they are some of the best 5 digit Mark VI altos you'll find.

This alto come to us in need of an overhaul, so it is currently in our repair shop in line for a full restoration. We'll take it apart, clean it, and repad it. The accumulated dust and grime you see in the photos will all be cleaned away, and the tiny dents in the tube will also be removed. When we are finished, the sax will be physically perfect. We'll also replace all of the pads and corks, using original style seamless metal resonators, and precisely regulate the instrument so that it feels new again.

This Mark VI was relacquered long ago, but it still has an original-like color to it, owed to the fact than a factory style air bake lacquer was used during the process. The horn was also more recently re-engraved in the original style, and it looks great. The sax has a few minor dings which we will remove during our repad, but shows no signs of any past trauma. The bell flare is perfect and the horn has never take a hit on the bottom bow cap. A previous owner did etch some numbers just along the inside of the cap on the bottom bow, as seen in the photos, but we have decided not to remove this as it would include removing metal from the horn. The sax has its original neck, with matching serial number, which has never been pulled down.

Once finished in our repair shop, this is going to be a truly special Mark VI alto, for a price far below what you'd expect to pay had it been original lacquer. If we get it done before it sells, we'll be posting new photos, so stay tuned! This sax does ship in its original case.
