1920's Original Gold Plate Nude Portrait Conn New Wonder Baritone Sax, Serial #100003
Fantastic Early 1920's Vintage Conn Bari
This is a very cool vintage original gold plate Conn New Wonder baritone sax, serial number 100003. Its show cases elaborate engraving with the centerpiece of a nude woman and a swan. The top notch engraving on it is an example of classic American craftsmanship. This level of attention to detail unfortunately did not continue with instruments after the 1930's. The bari does feature rolled tone holes and is keyed from low Bb to high Eb. These early Conn's were rich free blowing players and are very special instruments.
This one in particular does have some standard play wear on it for its age but is in beautiful overall condition. The gold plate is all original and looks fantastic. There is some history of body work and re-solders to this instrument. Some smaller dings still remain. Fully restored this would be an incredible free blowing player. As it is now it will need a complete overhaul before it is ready to be played. The vintage and good condition of this instrument make it an ideal item for a collection or for a project piece. We are currently selling it as is in order to keep the cost down. This is a very special instrument with a lot of history and was previously part of the Saxquest Museum.
