This is a sweet old vintage C.G. Conn “New Invention” model alto sax, serial number 30279. This alto predates the New Wonder model, and dates way back to 1914. Despite being over 100 years old, it is in its original finish and is in overall excellent shape.
This is a “dual tone” Conn, meaning it has a silver plated body with gold plated keywork. This was a factory option for a long time from Conn, but you don't see many of them today. The plating is in excellent condition and shows little finish wear. There is some minor wear on some of the keys, where the gold has worn through and you can see the silver underneath. The sax also has gold inlay in the engraving, and gold wash inside the bell. There is also a mother-of-pearl inlay on the G# key, a unique find on this model.
Physically the horn shows some very minor pings in the bottom bow area and a couple more in the neck, but no serious past damage or trauma. All of the keywork is intact and moves freely. The sax is sitting on older pads and will ultimately need a repad do get into playing shape, but due to the extreme uniqueness and collector's quality to this sax, we have decided to offer it as-is at a very low price. It is a definite addition for the collector, you don't see them in this kind of condition at all.
