New Videos Posted
7/19/2010 - First need to thank Chamber Project St. Louis and everyone that came out and saw them over the weekend. It was a great event and a lot of fun!

We're still working on the video of that performance, but in the meantime we did get some video up of the James Carter event we hosted earlier in the summer. You can check that out, along with other videos taken at our store, at Saxquest Videos.

In the last 3 weeks we've posted literally hundreds of mouthpieces on our website and on ebay, so check them all out! Also just got in a sweet 40x SBA tenor, now featured on our front page.

Thanks!

CHAMBER PROJECT ST LOUIS AT SAXQUEST THIS WEEKEND!
7/12/2010 - I'm very excited to invite you out to a great event this weekend at Saxquest. We're bringing in Chamber Project St. Louis who will be giving a wonderful performance at the Saxquest shop this Saturday July 17th starting at 2PM. The setting will be informal and refreshments will be served.

CHAMBER PROJECT SAINT LOUIS is a unique and dynamic ensemble that explores the relationship between performers and audience members by concertizing in intimate settings and performing wide ranging programs. For example, in this concert, you'll hear a transformation of the Brazilian music sound in a piece from 1924 by Heitor Villa-Lobos; you'll hear two contemporary works by local composer Aaron Johnson; as well as pieces by David Gillingham, Paul Hayden , Philippe Di BETTA and others.

The three members of Chamber Project St. Louis who will be performing are Dana Hotle, clarinet; Adrianne Honnold, saxophone; and Jennifer Gartley,
flute. Chamber Project St. Louis musicians are active as orchestral musicians and have performed with the Saint Louis Symphony, Illinois Symphony, New World Symphony, and the National Symphony Orchestra. They are committed educators, serving on the faculties of Maryville University, McKendree University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Missouri St. Louis, and the Community Music School of Webster University.

This is a great opportunity to meet and hear some of St. Louis's top working professional musicians. The level of musicianship at which Chamber Project St. Louis performs is incredibly high. Their ability to take
extremely challenging music and perform it effortlessly at such a high energy level is riveting and really engages the listener.

This is one of those rare opportunities to hear something new and be blown away by the music; while at the same time supporting local musicians and a local composer. DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS ONE........your support is really crucial!!! Please tell anyone you know who may be interested.

Thanks for your support!!!

I’m very excited to invite you out to Saxquest for a very special Saxophone Master Class. Saxquest has partnered with P. Mauriat Saxophones to sponsor a wonderful clinic with world reknown saxophonist, JAMES CARTER. This is a very rare opportunity to chat with and learn directly from one of today’s leading voices on saxophone.

James Carter has cemented his reputation as one of the most adventurous, visionary young reed players on the cusp of this new millennium. Carter’s passion for the roots of his music and the tools of his trade run deep, and he speaks with infectious enthusiasm and encyclopedic knowledge both about the tribal elders and the history of his instruments. Not as an outsider, but as one of the most exciting young virtuosos in contemporary music; as an accomplished wind player who has taken on the challenge of mastering all the single reed and double reed instruments; as an eternal searcher... --Chip Stern, Jazz Times

Come See Mike Lee at Saxquest this Weekend!
3/25/2010 - I'm very excited to invite you out to another great event this Sunday afternoon at Saxquest. We'll be hosting a free master-class with Mike Lee from New York who will be at the Saxquest shop this Sunday starting at 2PM. The setting will be informal and refreshments will be served.

Mike is one of the hardest working jazz saxophonists on the scene today. His musicianship is awe inspiring and his passion for jazz and the saxophone is contagious. Check out his web site here
http://mikeleejazz.com.

Noted jazz historian Mark Gridley summed up Mike's musicianship very well by saying:

His writing and playing exhibit a consistently high intelligence and concern for continuity and purpose. …I have noticed an assimilation of varied influences in the hard-bop mainstream, and a marvelous fluency. His command of the instrument is masterful, and he has refined an incisive posture within his approach to improvisation.

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet Mike and to get a first-hand glimpse into the mind of one of today's great masters of the saxophone. Don't let this opportunity pass you by. We work very hard at bringing these kinds of events to St. Louis and remember, our enthusiasm to continue hosting such venues depends on how many people we get coming to check them out. Thanks for your support!!!.

Mike will also be performing with his quartet New Tricks live at Highway 61 Roadhouse Sunday at 7PM. The group features Ted Chubb on trumpet, Kellen Harrison on bass and Shawn Baltazor on drums (http://newtricksjazz.com).

I hope to see you Sunday at Saxquest!!

Saxquest Grand Opening - JUNE 14
6/3/2008 -

SAXQUEST GRAND OPENING
June 14 – Noon to 6:30PM

Saxquest is happy to announce the Grand Opening of its new store front location and the Grand Opening of the Saxquest Saxophone Museum. The museum showcases a huge collection of many of the finest and rarest saxophones in the world as well as a collection of vintage saxophone accessories and other historic saxophone memorabilia. The museum is located on the 2nd floor of the Saxquest shop and is free and open to the public.

Included in the museum’s collection is a fully restored quartet of original pre-civil war Adolphe Sax saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone). Adolphe Sax invented the saxophone in 1846 and very few of his original instruments still exist. Also featured is a Conn-O-Sax, made by the C.G. Conn company in 1928. This wonderful and fascinating instrument was the brainchild of their ill-conceived idea of replacing the orchestra’s English horn with a saxophone. Other highlights from the collection include a quintet of 1920’s vintage gold plate artist model Conn saxophones (alto, c-melody, tenor, bari, bass) with exquisite hand cut engraving, a 1950’s vintage arcrylic Grafton saxophone (made famous by Charlie Parker at Massey Hall in New York), a Selmer Paris saxophone commemorating their 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair gold medal for clarinet design, and many other rare and one-of-a-kind saxes. From the huge bass saxophone to the obscenely small sopranisimo saxophone, the Saxquest Saxophone Museum is a real St. Louis treasure for the music lover or the eclectic museum goer.

Saxquest has established itself as one of the most trusted saxophone specialty shops in the United States and the only one in the St. Louis metro area. Saxquest carries one of the largest inventories of vintage saxophones in the country as well as a full line of saxophone and clarinet accessories offered at the lowest prices anywhere. The Saxquest repair shop has garnered national attention. Two full time master-craftsmen and one apprentice perform complete mechanical restorations on woodwind and brass instruments and cater to musicians demanding top-professional level work. As such, Saxquest takes in work from some of the most discriminating professional players all over the country in addition to doing many local repairs.

Grand Opening Day Events

The Saxquest Grand Opening Day will include numerous activities marking this unique event including performances, recitals, clinics and master-classes by top level professionals, all free and open to the public. Saxquest is a strong advocate of the local St. Louis music scene and believes whole-heartedly in supporting music education for adults and our city’s youth. Food and drink will be served and door prizes awarded. We invite everyone to come celebrate with us, and encourage St. Louis visitors to make the Saxquest Saxophone Museum a must-see stop on their journey through our great city. Detailed schedule of the day’s events below:

4PM-5PM - Kim Bock jazz performance and clinic - Kim Bock is one of the truly great young jazz musicians on the New York scene today. His playing draws on a multitude of influences including Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane and exudes a deep musical sensibility and instrumental expertise. Born in Denmark, Kim got one of his first big breaks when he was picked up by Maynard Ferguson in 2000, touring extensively with his Big Bop Nouveau Band. He has since gone on to record with his own quartet and most recently an organ trio (SteepleChase label).

“Kim Bock is a player that fits into the category of world-famous jazz artists that have passed through my band, to name a few; Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Peter Erskine and Slide Hampton. As my featured tenor saxophone player, Kim displays, night after night, outstanding musicianship with exceptional skills on the saxophone and a deep knowledge of the jazz idiom that makes a truly great jazz artist”Maynard Ferguson

“Mr. Bock is an exceptional player who has matched the physical challenges of his instrument, as illustrated by impressive technique and an appealing tone, both of which he has achieved through genuine talent and serious wood shedding. He's done lots of listening, and his playing on tenor has reminded me of John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter” - Phillip Booth (contributor to DownBeat & Jazziz)

5PM-6:30PM - OPEN JAM SESSION - Hang out and play with Kim Bock and others...........
